Diabetes Risk Assessment
Some people with Diabetes may be prone to the development of infection and foot ulcers. Elevated blood glucose levels are associated with nerve and small blood vessel damage.
The podiatrists at Alfords Point Podiatry Clinic are all skilled in Diabetic foot assessment. This includes vascular assessment. We are one of the few practices in the Macarthur area that routinely includes the use of a PPG machine, which assesses blood flow to the toes, as part of the normal vascular assessment. Our assessment also includes neurological assessment to ascertain how much feeling there is in both feet.
Alfords Point Podiatry Clinic also has Gait Scan technology. This is made available to our patients and can identify areas of high pressure under the foot long before there is risk of ulcer development. By knowing which areas are susceptible to problems, risk of infection and ulceration can be greatly reduced.
